Italian Neoclassical Walnut Commode with Inlay, 1800
About the Item
Neoclassical commode hand-made in Italy in the early 1800s using walnut and decorated with walnut cross-banded veneer. The dresser features two overlay drawers with ogee edges. The drawer fronts are decorated with a simple rectangular frame done with alternating grain cross-banded walnut veneer, creating a beautiful, yet simple pattern. The sides are flat and also decorated with cross-banded veneer, but this time arranged in the shape of a vertical diamond. The legs and original and tapered, as typical with the style. The chest of drawers is adorned with a hand-carved bracket in the front. The hardware is not orginal to the piece. The top has flat edges and gorgeous character.
Overall this is a beautiful and elegant piece of furniture that because of its warm color and character will be both practical and decorative.
