Instrumental Inlaid Kingwood and Satinwood Marble Top French Louis XV Commode
By Dieudonné
Located in Swedesboro, NJ
This exquisite French Louis XV commode showcases the elegance and craftsmanship of 18th-century design, beautifully blending artistry with function. The commode features a fine marble top, richly veined and shaped to follow the serpentine contours of the case. Below, the cabinet is masterfully veneered in kingwood and satinwood, highlighted by intricate instrumental inlays depicting musical motifs surrounded by floral sprays, a hallmark of refined French decorative artistry. The serpentine front and cabriole legs, adorned with gilt-bronze ormolu mounts, embody the graceful curves typical of the Louis XV style. The central panel’s inlaid guitar and sheet music bring an air of sophistication and romance, while the surrounding floral marquetry adds depth and vibrancy to the design. The drawers are fitted with gilt-bronze pulls and escutcheons, further enhancing the luxurious presentation. Ideal for a living room, entryway, or master suite, this inlaid French commode...

Satinwood Sheraton Revival Breakfront Marquetry Commode
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
An Exceptional Edwardian Satinwood Commode, Reproducing Thomas Chippendale’s Piece-Known as the Diana and Minerva Commode-Supplied to the Lascelles Family at Harewood House A satinwood Sheraton Revival breakfront marquetry commode, the shaped marble top above one long drawer flanked by two concave drawers decorated with inlaid festoons, all above a recessed, arched central drawer and concave side-cupboard doors, decorated in fruitwood and hardwood marquetry with crossbanding, bellflower garlands and classical motifs centred on roundels depicting Diane and Minerva with mother-pearl and bone detailing, applied with ormolu mounts and raised on six carved square-section legs, the locks on one drawer marked ‘Hobbs & Co’. English, circa 1900. Ivory reference number: A89CGW1D Published: Christopher Payne, ‘British Furniture 1820-1920: The Luxury Market.’ Woodbridge, 2023, p. 436, pl. 8.89. Acknowledged as one of Chippendale’s finest documented pieces, the Diana and Minerva commode was supplied for the State Bedroom at Harewood House in 1773. Our example faithfully reproduces the spirit and decorative impact of Chippendale’s original-including the wonderful inlaid ivory panels-whilst adding a very practical marble top. For a very similar commode see the 1900 painting ‘Sir George Sitwell, Lady Ida Sitwell and Family’ by John Singer Sargent. The locksmiths’ company of Hobbs & Co of London was actually founded by an American salesman and inventor for Jones & Newell of New York. Boston born Alfred Charles Hobbs (1812-1891) created quite a stir at the Great Exhibition of 1851 when he picked the ‘impregnable’ locks of both Bramah and Chubb! Making the most of his fame, he registered his own company, Hobbs and Co...

19th Century Louis XVI Style Marquetry Commode in the Manner of Riesener
By Jean-Henri Riesener
Located in London, GB
A very fine Louis XVI style gilt-bronze mounted marquetry commode After the design by Jean-Henri Riesener (1734-1806) After a model by Jean-Henri Riesener, supplied to Princess Adélaïde for Versailles. Constructed from amaranth with veneered tulipwood "en semelle" and dressed with a profusion of finely cast & hand-chased ormolu mounts, with a Sarrancolin marble platform, atop a breakfront frieze, set with three drawers, over a unified central panel divided in two drawers depicting a 'bois de bout' marquetry floral still life within a gilt-bronze frame, flanked by panels of quarter-cut tulipwood with ormolu handles suspended from lover's knot bows, with conforming matched panels to the concave sides. The apron is mounted with a finely cast central scroll, and the canted corners dressed with cascading ormolu foliate mounts terminating in lion's paw feet. French, circa 1910 Madame Adélaïde's commode The design for this commode was one of the earliest royal commissions awarded to Jean-Henri Riesener (1734-1806), the master craftsman who was later appointed cabinetmaker to Louis XVI and his court in 1774. The commode, with its architectural features, extensive ormolu mounts and immaculate marquetry work, was ordered in 1776 and delivered that same year for Madame Adélaïde (1732-1800), the daughter of king Louis XV and Marie Leszczynska. The commode was later moved to château de Bellevue when it was given to her by king Louis XVI. The famous commode was later part of the Earl of Carnarvon's collection, who also bought furniture made for Napoleon. Carnarvon's wife, Lady Elmina Wombwell, was the child of Alfred de Rotschild, which may explain the post-revolutionary history of the royal commode. In 2018, the Riesener commode was bought for the nation for the sum of 3.5m€ and returned to Versailles.

Located in New Orleans, LA
Matchless style and high-quality craftsmanship are the hallmarks of Pierre Roussel's furniture, and this exceptional Louis XVI-era commode epitomizes this master craftsman's skill. Crafted of rosewood veneer with a violet wood frame and intricate parquetry inlay, the cabinet's graceful design is also highly practical. Italian Art Deco Blue Crystal Italian Commode, Chest of Drawers
Located in Valladolid, ES
Outstanding chest of drawers made by hand with Italian blue glass plates. Exclusive geometric design, based on triangular shapes and their tangents, which seem to form the silhouette of a diamond on the front. Each chest of drawers is made up of two large-capacity registers with asymmetric handles. The lower handle is an equilateral triangle, element or central point of the entire projected ornament. These tangential lines arranged on the front and on the top of the furniture are created with a mirror. The edges of the furniture are metallic, silver in colour, as are the openwork legs and the previously mentioned mirrors. The result is a highly refined pairing of colours -blue and silver-. This type of furniture recalls the Art Deco designs of the first quarter of the 20th century. Handwork by international artist...
