About the Item

This is a credenza that exudes power, presence, and a little bit of that old-money mystique. Designed by the legendary Edward Wormley for Dunbar, this mahogany and walnut masterpiece is giving high design meets high drama, wrapped in an air of timeless sophistication. At the heart of this piece? A grand, oversized brass medallion latch securing the two center doors, flanked by equally dramatic oversized round brass hinges—not hidden, but proudly displayed like fine jewelry. The eight drawers (four on each side) and a full-length bottom drawer are adorned with large brass medallions with ring pulls, because, let’s be real—this credenza isn’t holding back on the opulence. And just when you think the brass party is over, you’ll find solid brass handles on either side. The ebonized mahogany inlay gives a nod to Chinoiserie influences, adding just the right amount of exotic intrigue. The original finish shows gentle wear, with some tiny chips in the lacquer, but nothing that distracts from its sheer grandeur. Edward Wormley (1907–1995) was one of the most influential American designers of the 20th century. While many of his contemporaries leaned heavily into strict modernism, Wormley struck a balance—merging classic design principles with modernist innovation. His work for Dunbar Furniture in the mid-century era redefined luxury, elevating American furniture design to new heights. Dunbar, once a small Indiana-based company, became synonymous with impeccable craftsmanship and forward-thinking design under Wormley’s creative direction. Today, Dunbar pieces are highly collectible, sought after by those who appreciate mid-century elegance with a touch of the unexpected. In short, this isn’t just a credenza—it’s a statement, a collector’s dream, and a forever piece. So whether you’re styling it in a grand entryway, a penthouse office, or your own personal sanctuary, know that you’re adding a piece of design history to your space.
