Unique Late 19th Century Gilt Bronze Mounted Cabinet by François Linke
Located in Long Island City, NY
A unique late 19th century gilt bronze mounted parquetry cabinet by François Linke and Léon Messagé François Linke and Léon Messagé This unusual cabinet features a cube parquetry top with a back splash centered with a plume of bronze feathers and flowers, above a long single drawer with a bronze leaf-clasped scallop shell and two handles shaped as wings, the sides headed by foliate and flower-cast clasps. The cabinet was most likely made to store magazines or original phonograph records. Stamped FL under many of the bronze mounts, the lock stamped CT LINKE/PARIS Linke was born in Pankraz in Bohemia and was celebrated by the French as one of the greatest ébénistes of meubles de style at the turn of the century. He began his apprenticeship with a Bohemian master at the age of thirteen. Four years later, he toured Austria, settling and working in Vienna for two years. Linke arrived in Paris 1875, and by 1881 he had established his own small workshop at 170 rue du Faubourg St. Antoine. Taking 18th century styles as his starting point and adapting earlier styles to contemporary taste, Linke produced fine quality furniture, steadily expanding his business during the next 20 years. He firmly established his reputation after receiving a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 for his extraordinary Grand Bureau. He continued to use international fairs as a means of exploring new markets, exhibiting at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, the Liege in Belgium and the 1908 Franco-British exhibition in London. Linke’s highly original designs sprang from the Régence and Rococo styles but were imbued with something quite new, Rococo curves were laden with gilt-bronze sculptural mounts in the tradition of A.-C. Boulle (1642-1732) or Charles Cressent (1685-1758). Stylistically, the new designs still adhered to the Rococo; the novelty, however, was Linke’s fusion of the Rococo with the liveliness and the fluidity of the ‘art nouveau’. The Revue called Linke’s creations entierement nouveau, and continued to say that ‘Linke’s stand...

Spanish Colonial Revival Style Oak Cupboard Hutch Cabinet or Dry Bar Hand Carved
Located in Topeka, KS
Fantastic vintage Spanish Colonial Revival style oak cupboard, hutch, cabinet, or dry bar comprised of hand carved oak, wood pegs & shelves, & brass. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This piece has lots of wonderful patina. We have added new magnetic latches to doors as they we just not staying shut on their own. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 19th Century through 20th Century. We really have a hard time determining age of this piece. It is fabulous no matter and is priced for its beauty and not its age. Enigma definition: A person, object, or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. This cupboard is just that… definitely puzzling and mysterious!! And I sure wish it could talk because I bet it has some GREAT stories to share!! Something tells me it’s seen a few things and has had quite an interesting history. It is a one-piece cabinet comprised of oak with a top and bottom section and an open center section. The doors have carvings with (what we believe are) dates back to the 1600’s. The door fronts remind me of vintage livery cupboards… they are nostalgic and quite mystifying!! We don’t believe the whole cupboard is quite the same age, hence, more mystery! We believe the body or frame of the cupboard is Early 1900’s, possibly earlier, and was made from reclaimed lumber or someone possibly took pieces of an old cabinet and repurposed it. The top section is constructed with mortise & tenon joints (no nails!), the inner top & base cabinets each enclose a single adjustable wood shelf with aged wood peg brackets, and stepped siderails or shelf supports. Both the top and lower door fronts bear enigmatic brass armoire hinges...

Jim Rose Two-Door Housetop Weave Multi-Color Steel Quilt Pattern Cupboard
Located in Chicago, IL
This is a totally functional two-door cupboard. It is created from hot rolled steel and found steel. The legs are made from salvaged pipe. The panels on the door fronts and sides are made from salvaged pieces of steel with the original paint and texture making this modern Industrial aesthetic a model of sustainable design. The pattern is inspired by the Quilts of Gee's Bend Alabama. Prominent colors in this piece are tones of blue, black, gray and blue, gray and rust. There are two fixed shelves inside the cabinet. This piece is available as pictured. Jim Rose Two Door housetop quilt cupboard hot-rolled steel, found painted steel 42 H x 33 W x 17 D in 106.68 H x 83.82 W x 43.18 D cm JR0010 Jim Rose b. 1966 Bio: Born in Indiana, Jim Rose lived in Europe until he returned to the United States to attend college. After one year at Bard College, Jim transferred to the School of the Art Institute in Chicago (SAIC) where he graduated in 1988 with a BFA. His skillful interpretation of the Shaker design is a result of intense research and field study of Shaker furniture, architecture, culture and history. After over two decades of dedicated work, he has mastered the minimalism of the Shaker technique and created his own unique visual vernacular. The quilts of Gee's Bend have become a monumental influence taking this artist's work to new levels of unique interpretation and artistry. His selection of aged steel results in a patina directly related to that of aged wood while his colored strips beautifully mimic worn cloth. Each piece of furniture is masterfully made and intended for daily use. Jim Rose’s steel furniture is featured every year at SOFA Chicago for the past 25 years. Jim Rose Two Door Chinese Coin Quilt Cupboard hot roll and found painted steel 38.25h x 53.88w x 21d in 97.16h x 136.84w x 53.34d cm JR0249 Jim Rose 1966 - 2023 Bio: Born in Indiana, Jim Rose lived in Europe until he returned to the United States to attend college.
