About the Item

An impressive and very high quality French 19th century Louis XV st. Mahogany, tulipwood and ormolu bureau plat desk. The three drawer desk is raised by elegant cabriole legs with handsome fitted paw feet, acanthus ormolu sabots, and striking richly chased pierced scrolled foliate ormolu corner mounts. The scalloped apron displays three drawers each decorated with lovely finely detailed scrolled foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons and pulls set on a most decorative butterfly veneered background with a delicate Tulipwood fillet and separated by striking reeded gadroon designed mounts. The back is decorated in the same manner with three faux drawers while the sides also display butterfly veneered mahogany panels showcasing the stunning wood grain. Above is the original fitted gold tooled leather writing surface framed within a beautiful mahogany and tulipwood border, and a most elegant wrap around mottled ormolu gallery with outstanding foliate corner mounts.
