French Louis XVI Style Parquetry Desk
About the Item
A high-quality French Louis XVI style desk with geometric parquetry in mahogany with gilt-bronze mounts, including swags at the corners. The desk has three drawers with working locks and keys and is double faced. The right drawer features a compartment with a removable insert. The desk top appears to be a recent replacement, in rich brown leather, with nicely-stamped and gold leafed embossing. Underneath the desk, there is a stamp that reads "Hopilliart & Leroy, 12 rue des Sts Peres," from the Saint Germain des Pres quarter of Paris.
