Original Pierre Jeanneret Partners Desk from the Offices of Chandigarh, India

About the Item

Original Pierre Jeanneret 'X' Leg Desk from the Offices of Chandigarh, India Designed by Le Corbusier. Hand-crafted from teakwood, the floating desktop consists of four drawers, and on the opposite side, a storage compartment concealed by a door. The piece features both Jeanneret's signature half-moon aluminum pulls and drafting compass-shaped legs, Circa 1950-1959. Recently refurbished with a replaced leather top.   PIERRE JEANNERET (FRANCE, 1896-1967) A visionary of modernist architecture and design, Swiss-born architect and furniture designer Pierre Jeanneret (1896-1967) worked for most of his life alongside his cousin Le Corbusier. Pierre Jeanneret emerged from Le Corbusier’s shadow, as collectors have discovered his simple and striking furniture creations. Jeanneret’s finest work in furniture was done in Chandigarh, and these are the pieces that have earned him recent renown. Crafted of teak, the designs range from low-slung lounge chairs and armchairs with cane seats to desks and tables, most with Jeanneret’s signature drafting compass-shaped legs. Many such pieces on the market today are refurbished, having been found by dealers languishing in scrapyards in India in the late 1990s. Chandigarh is now taking better care of its modernist heritage, making available Jeanneret works all the more rare.

Victor Pasmore Etching from "The Dance of Man In Modern Times Portfolio"
By Victor Pasmore 1
Located in Stamford, CT
An etching and aquatint by Victor Pasmore from his portfolio titled "The Dance of Man in Modern Times". Victor Pasmore was one of the leading members of the English school of Abstract Expressionism. Please note this is one print from a larger portfolio. Other prints from this portfolio are available. A bit about Pasmore- Beginning in 1947, he developed a purely abstract style under the influence of Ben Nicholson and other artists associated with Circle, becoming a pioneering figure of the revival of interest in Constructivism in Britain following the War. [6] Pasmore's abstract work, often in collage and construction of reliefs, pioneered the use of new materials and was sometimes on a large architectural scale. Herbert Read described Pasmore's new style as "The most revolutionary event in post-war British art".[7] In 1950, he was commissioned to design an abstract mural for a bus depot in Kingston upon Thames[8] and the following year Pasmore contributed a mural to the Festival of Britain that promoted a number of the British Constructivists. Pasmore was a supporter of fellow artist Richard Hamilton, giving him a teaching job in Newcastle and contributing a constructivist structure to the exhibition "This Is Tomorrow" in collaboration with Erno Goldfinger and Helen Phillips...
