About the Item

A very high quality and spectacular Russian early 19th century Empire style mahogany ' Bureau a Cylindre' with all original gilt and hardware. The square feet with brass reeded plaques below three large drawers bordered with brass filets have ormolu handles and keyholes. The handsome cylinder roll-up framed with brass filets, pulls, and mounts, opens to reveal a leather fitted pullout and smaller drawers of various sizes. The curved sides of the desk are adorned with brass rosettes and reeded filets. Above are two additional drawers flanking a central slide opening to display letter slots, all decorated with ormolu handles, pulls, and brass filets. The elegant top is decorated with unique brass finial mounts on brass-edged tiered sides and central brass pierced gallery.
