About the Item

A superb quality late Victorian Sheraton style rosewood and marquetry desk in the manner of Edwards & Roberts. With a Carlton House influenced top featuring elegant inlaid curved lids to the stationary and letter compartments and small drawers below and an inlaid and pierced spindle gallery between. With original tooled green leather writing surface above seven drawers with polished mahogany drawer linings and expansion slots to the base these drawers easily accommodate A4 sized paper. The upper three drawers are fitted with ‘Hobbs’ locks and there is a key for these three drawers. The desk is raised on square tapering legs with original brass caps and castors and is finished with boxwood stringing and inlaid spandrils to the kneehole. With a good original color rarely seen some of the inlays even still show a touch of their original green stains. The leather is perfectly useable but does have ring marks and wear and a replacement may therefore be preferred.
