About the Item

This late eighteenth century Louis XVI period chest of drawers is called a semainier in French due to its seven drawers. Semainier comes from the French word "semaine" which means week. The bottom drawer has a double false drawer front to maintain the look of seven drawers and is actually a deeper drawer. The chest is constructed of solid walnut and features fluted rounded corners. Its drawers of dovetail construction are fitted with bronze drop ring pulls and escutcheons detailed with beading. The piece rests on classic tapered legs. No key. c. 1800.
