About the Item

An exquisite 18th century Dutch Bombe Kast or linen press in fine Cuban mahogany with all of the original bronze d'ore mounts. From the mid-1700s, this Kast stylistically follows the period of Dutch Rococo cabinetry also refereed to as late Baroque. By circa 1750, the Rococo style was well established in the Netherlands and was influencing English cabinet making. Note that this form has diverged from the Rococo style, since the typical carved paw feet and the flat angular shape of the drawers have been replaced by the softer and more streamlined bombe form with tapered feet and sabots. Our Kast shares many of the neoclassical embellishments used by the French cabinet makers during the period of Louis XVI such as the carved bows and swags and the neoclassical portrait silhouettes, possibly of King Louis XVI himself, while still retaining a distinctly Dutch form. Louis XVI (23 August 1754–21 January 1793) was King of France & Navarre from 1774 until 1791, after which he was King of the French from 1791-1792. Dimensions: 74” wide x 26” deep x 100” high. Note: You should always request a shipping quote. Quoted amounts are an estimate of what it might cost to ship out to you based on destinations of the greatest distance. We would love to find you a better quote if possible.
