A Louis XV period Dutch mahogany armoire and chest of drawers that in its time would have been used as a linen press. The armoire is topped with a serpentine carved cartouche showing a classical male head in profile wearing a wreath; inset in open carved acorn branches over a pair of panelled doors in beautifully matched mahogany. The doors are also topped with opposing carved oval profiles. The front sides of the top section have rounded fluted columns with gilded Corinthian capitals flanking carved molded edge floral doors. AN EXCEPTIONAL AUSTRIAN NEO-MEDIEVAL SYCAMORE CUPBOARD FINELY CARVED WITH BIRDS AMONG FRUITING VINES, PANELS OF GOTHIC TRACERY, DRAGONS, A STAG AND AN IBEX, WITH WROUGHT STEEL LOCK-PLATES AND HANDLES, BRANDED M BENEATH A COUNT’S CORONET, CIRCA 1890. Provenance; Ernst, Count Moÿ de Sons, Schloss Anif, Salzburg thence by descent at Schloss Anif to Johannes, Count Moÿ de Sons by whom sold, Sotheby’s Amsterdam 16/10/2001 Schloss Anif, outside Salzburg, was formerly a seat of the Prince Archbishops of Salzburg and was bought in 1837 by Alois, Count Arco Stepperg (1808-1891) who remodelled the Schloss in the Medieval revival style. The furniture was supplied by the Salzburg cabinet-maker Joseph Wessicken (1810-1899). Count Stepperg’s daughter married Ernst, Count Moÿ de Sons and they inherited Schloss Anif.
