About the Item

Louis XVI commode with secretaire hand-crafted in France using mahogany and pegged construction. The commode features three inset drawer, the first of which slides out to reveal a small writing surface and three smaller drawers. The writing surface features an inset tooled leather insert. The other two drawers are fully functional and provide plenty of storage. The drawers all show beautiful dovetail joints and are decorated on the front with flat molding along the edge. On the front corners the commode is decorated with two rounded, fluted columns that end in tapered, fluted feet. The sides are made of flat chamfered panels framed by flat molding. The top of the commode is made of a thick, hand-cut marble with ogee edges and rounded front corners. Overall this is a beautiful piece that is elegant and timeless. The light color and the striations of the bleached mahogany give it a contemporary look, but the marble top gives it a very classical feel. The small size make it a perfect piece for a bedroom to be used as a dressing table. or in a small office.
