About the Item

Natural pine shop counter with a top with cut front corners. This top is wider on the left than it is on the right. It is supported at the front and on one side by openwork scrolled consoles. The fronts of this piece of furniture are composed of flat-banded panels, assembled in one direction and in the other. They are accentuated by ogee-shaped beading forming frames. The front uprights are canted and molded. The whole rests on a wide plinth. What we will call the 'back' of this counter consists of two drawers, assembled with dovetail joints and arranged laterally. They are equipped with a working lock and their respective keys, all original. This space, originally reserved for the shopkeeper, is also furnished with a fixed shelf, with a maximum depth of 26 cm. It should be noted that this counter also features a floor, a characteristic of trade furniture, which allowed the shopkeeper to protect his feet from the cold floor. The natural wear and tear of this platform in the center is also noticeable, testifying to the authenticity and history of this property. It should also be noted that the height of this counter, as well as the significant overhang of its top on the 'front' section, provided potential customers with a place to sit. They could thus comfortably study the products on display, exchange ideas, and finalize their transactions. Finally, we should highlight the asymmetry and dual functions of this merchant's counter, which could be used as a display and/or cashier's piece of furniture. ******** Period: 1900 Perfect condition after restoration in our workshop.
