George II/ George III Period Oak Dresser Base Sideboard
About the Item
A very nicely proportioned English oak dresser base sideboard resting on cabriole legs in the front terminating in pad feet, with stile legs in the back. Three good sized drawers are fitted into the shaped front of the case. Rustic and elegant at the same time, the curves of the contours of the serpentine front apron are gracefully carried through the case sides as well, giving the side view a strong dynamic look. Original hardware. The oak timber has nice quarter sawn grain patterning with darker patina, lightening to reveal a warm caramel undertone. Ca. 1760-1780. Very good condition, typical signs of age/light surface distress, good later finish.
