Japanese Antique Large Kuruma Tansu 1800s-1860s / Cabinet Sideboard Wabi Sabi

About the Item

This is an old, large, Japanese-made Kuruma-Tansu. Made in the Edo period (1800s-1860s), it is a powerful and dignified piece, the culmination of the skills and aesthetic sense of the craftsmen of the time. Various types of wood such as zelkova, paulownia, and cedar were used as materials, and all metal fittings scattered throughout the piece are made of iron. The robust structure and stately appearance are impressive. The word “bold” is appropriate, and it has a presence that overwhelms you the moment you see it. On the other hand, the design of the latticework and the exquisite sense of balance give it a sense of dignity with a delicate aesthetic that is uniquely Japanese. The texture of the piece, which suggests that it has been carefully touched up over the years of use, exudes a unique charm. The drawers open and close smoothly, as do the lids on the top. The furniture has been well cared for not only in terms of appearance but also in terms of functionality, and can be used with confidence immediately upon arrival. As a piece of furniture that combines history and aesthetics, it has the presence of an art piece in a contemporary space. Weight: approx. 70 kg ______________________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
