About the Item

Rare antique clock cabinet from Sweden made during the transitional time between the gustavian and empire period. The cabinet is from Northern Sweden and is made around 1820 to 1840. The lower cabinet has two doors and behind them an interior with both shelves and drawers, two of which are secret hidden compartments. These drawers are difficult to show as the name may suggest. In the centre of the cabinet there is a space for the weights which reaches all the way to the bottom of the cabinet. The upper cabinet has the clock with the original hand-made glass in the door. The clock comes with the original mechanism, clock face, weights and pendulum. The wind-up mechanism has been serviced to working condition and the clock ran at the time the photographs were taken but we leave no guarantee on the future function. The cabinet is made in painted pine with the original first layer of paint. The paint has authentic distress and patina which brings out the history and character of the piece. All parts are original to the clock cabinet and have been together since they were made 200 years ago. The lock and key are in working condition but the lock was replaced during the late 1800s. Healthy and solid frame.
