Scandinavian Modern Sibast No 11 Sideboard Buffet Arne Vodder for George Tanier

About the Item

Handsome vintage Scandinavian Modern Sibast No 11 sideboard, buffet, credenza by Arne Vodder for George Tanier comprised of a teak frame, round tapered legs, light birch adjustable interiors, and sliding bypass reversible doors teak on one side and white lacquer on the other with recessed teak finger pulls. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been redone, restored, or refinished. Specifically, there is a small, rubbed spot where the white lacquer finish is missing on the reverse side of one door and the lacquer finish does have some yellowing from age. There is a deeper scratch, a dark spot or stain, and a nick on the top that would not come out with sanding. The teak was cleaned thoroughly and given a fresh coat of Danish Oil. Please see photos and zoom in for details as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1950-1960’s. This is a MARVELOUS vintage Scandinavian Modern Sibast No 11 sideboard, buffet, or credenza by Arne Vodder for George Tanier. It is comprised of a gorgeous teak frame and a recessed base with four round tapered legs and two sliding bypass reversible doors bearing teak on one side of the door front and white lacquer on the other and they feature recessed teak finger pulls. How cool is that? So many options!! You get completely different looks with the reversible door option as you can flip one to reflect the white lacquer, or both, OR neither! And it’s beautiful ALL ways! The interior behind the bypass doors is comprised of light birch including four height adjustable drawers on the left and an adjustable beveled wood shelf with open storage on the right. It has adequate space for whatever you need to stow away. The top of the cabinet is smooth with a carved back lip and phenomenal teak wood grain. Use it as sideboard or buffet in the dining area, as a credenza in the living room, or as a fabulous storage cabinet in your study, office, or family room. The No. 11 sideboard is a fabulous size for smaller areas or in any room that needs a touch of quintessential Scandinavian Modern flair. It’s EXACTLY what the designer ordered! One of Denmark’s most prominent designers of the mid-20th century is Danish architect and designer Arne Vodder. His mentor was Finn Juhl who was also his teacher at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen where he completed his training and became a qualified architect in 1947. He established his own design studio along with his partner Anton Borg in 1950 in Copenhagen and soon after in 1953, began a partnership with Viggo Velin as a mediator in a successful collaboration with furniture retailer & designer George Tanier, Sibast Furniture, and Stenstrup on Funen. In the 60’s & 70’s Arne Vodder designed mostly Sibast furniture apart from his collaborations with Fritz Hansen who designed several pieces during this time. In the 70’s he worked with Erik Jorgensen and was assigned to the UN in the former Yugoslavia as a design expert and his partnership with Anton Borg ended in 1975. In the 80’s he designed for high quality garden furniture for InterForm Collection and Xcol and in the 90’s he reintroduced previous designs as well as some new designs by Fritz Hansen through his new partnership with Nilaus Furniture Company. Arne Vodder is a profound and imposing figure in Danish Modernism with a lengthy and successful career through his timeless designs. Helge Sibast was born in 1908 in Funen, Denmark. He was the son of a skilled cabinetmaker who would grow to be his father’s apprentice. He developed skills of high-quality craftsmanship and eventually took over his father’s business and it began to expand. In the 50’s & 60’s his company had grown substantially crafting some of the finest furnishings in Danish history which he called Sibast Furniture. Helge Sibast passed away in 1985 and as years went by, his grandson and his wife felt inspired to relaunch a new generation of Sibast Furniture. They continue to create new furnishings with high quality and craftsmanship while keeping the legacy of Helge Sibast alive. George Tanier was a renowned retailer and importer of Danish Modern and Scandinavian Modern furnishings sold through dealers, decorators, and architects through the Mid Century. This vintage Scandinavian Modern Sibast No 11 sideboard, buffet, or credenza by Arne Vodder for George Tanier is a versatile, exquisitely crafted, timeless piece of Danish magnificence.
