About the Item

Set of 2 EN 312 Side Boards by Haus Otto Dimensions: D40 x W43 x H68 cm Materials: Painted Chipboard Wood Weight: 15 Kg Each The material chipboard (DIN EN312) is one of the most widely used materials in the furniture industry, but mostly hidden under layers of synthetic or wooden veneer due to its visual appearance. Chipboard was invented in 1930 by Max Himmelheber in order to increase the utilization rate of trees. The process of reusing wooden waste and compressing it with sawdust has increased the utilization of a tree to 80 percent. By deliberately disclosuring and exaggeratedly highlighting the raw material an alternative interpretation and unconventonal use of recycled materials is showcased. Consisting of three movable parts the object EN312 can be individualy combined and arranged to support a more flexible way of storage and use of space. Haus Otto is a design studio that works in the field of object design and was established by Patrick Henry Nagel and Nils Körner in 2018 in Stuttgart, Germany. The Duo works for customers in economy and culture as well as on self initialised projects and has a hands-on and collaborative approach. While challenging assumptions, each project proposes pure and simple solutions which often contain a narrative aspect. Described as human made design the studio focuses on human sensibilities and shifts perception towards materiality, shapes and alternative ways of production. By facilitating a deeper understanding of both our natural and built environments, the studio proposes transformative interventions and conceptionally investigates the ecological, technological and social context of design today.

Columnata took its name from its underlying inspiration and a frequent reference in Tusquets’ work, the column. Within this vertical structure, the horizontal shelves can be arranged in various formations— symmetrical and asymmetrical, wall-hung or free-standing. The final units are functional and refined, ideal for book-lovers and anyone who enjoys such compositional harmony. Oscar Tusquets describes himself as an architect by training, a designer by adaptation, a painter by vocation, and a writer through the desire to make friends. Graduating from Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in 1965, Tusquets became a member of Studi Per. Together, they founded BD in 1972, and he set about designing furniture and objects, soon recognised by the Spanish National Design Award. BD Barcelona In 1972, a group of young architects and designers from Barcelona started BD. Our aim was to produce and market furniture...
