About the Item

Elegant vintage Italian sideboard or credenza, circa1940s, reflecting the Italian Mid-Century Modern movement with subtle Art Deco influence. Crafted in a refined combination of palisander wood and goat parchment (palissandro e pergamena), the piece embodies the sophistication and bespoke craftsmanship of the era, reminiscent of designs by Paolo Buffa and Osvaldo Borsani. The cabinet features clean, geometric lines with four parchment-clad doors framed in ebonized wood, accented by large circular brass pulls. A ribbed black detail runs across the upper section, concealing four drawers that add both function and visual interest. The sideboard has been professionally restored in Italy, with the exterior brought back to excellent condition while the interior was purposefully left with its original aged patina and subtle markings to preserve authenticity and history. The interior reveals richly toned palisander wood with fitted shelves, offering generous storage. Original brass keys accompany the piece, maintaining its period charm. Resting on tapered legs with brass-capped feet, the sideboard strikes a balance between understated luxury and timeless utility. This sideboard or credenza is on display at the Gallery at 200 Lex at the New York Design Center.
