Important "La Reine Floral" Bronze Table by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, Signed
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This incredible table is listed in a Philip and Kelvin LaVerne's 1960s catalogue as a Limited Edition work, making this rare 'La Reine Floral' coffee table an important artifact and collector's item. This table, and one other design, the coveted and highly sought after "Chan Li Cabinet" being Limited Editions in this particular time period and catalogue.
Per the original catalogue (see images), this La Reine Floral table by father and son team, Philip and Kelvin Laverne, was created in the manner of an 18th century masterpiece, and executed in pierced bronze, pewter and hand-enameled cloisonne of a superb floral inlay, circa 1965, signed on one corner. Beautiful finely cut design with scalloped shaped top and custom cut glass which allows full visibility through the top to the gorgeous sculptural cast bronze legs and openness of the filigree.
This beautiful La Reine Floral cocktail table has deep vivid patina throughout. Part of the process of father and son team, Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, was to bury their tables in dirt to give it a natural patina. In additional to this, the tables naturally patina throughout the decades they have been in use. This particular table has incredible patina through the bronze legs and table top. In addition, the colors of the hand applied enamel and polychroming is simply gorgeous.
This rare, coveted, in-demand and sought-after coffee (or tea!) table is best described as a functional sculpture. Philip and Kelvin considered themselves artists, rather than furniture makers, and their gallery motto was "Works of Art". So for most of the collector and antique dealer world, we consider this a sculpture that can be used as a coffee table, tea table, cocktail table or book table. It is sturdy and structurally sound, and since the materials are of a strong and robust nature - it is absolutely suitable for every day use. But of course, if you prefer, you can place it in your room purely for viewing purposes, it is similar to any other piece of quality, Fine art that you would otherwise place on a museum wall.
This La Reine Floral table, bearing similar design as another table coined Midsummer Night and another named Viola, is an incredible option for the most discriminating client or collector as this one is the only which was a Limited Edition. Consider for a Mid-Century Modern, Modern, Post-Modern or Contemporary home. Also an interesting addition of Juxtaposition in a French neoclassical, Traditional, Spanish, Transitional or Hollywood Regency room. Due to its formidable materials, this is suitable for residential or commercial use, perfect for any magazine-cover-worthy interior design project.
