Antique Chinese Round Center Table Hand Carved Elm

About the Item

Handsome antique Chinese round and hand carved center table of elm wood. This table is in good antique condition with lots and lots of gorgeous age patina including patched spots, uneven surfaces, warping, nicks and dings. We consider these things part of its beauty. It appears that at one time there was a crossbar between the legs which has been removed. From the patina at the removal site it must have been many years ago. Upon expert examination it is felt this is a married piece and is assembled from antique parts with the addition of some modern pieces. It is still solid and steady and will look beautiful in place. Please see photos, circa 1850-1900. We are so in love with this incredibly beautiful center table. This gorgeous antique comes from China, circa 1850-1900 at the height of the Victorian era when Asian imports were all the rage. It could have been an antique at that time so could be older. You must look closely at the photos and take note that the 45 inch wide top is made of one, yes, I said one, piece of wood! Also notice the warm rich patina of the hand carved wood which can only become this beautiful from age and use. There is even a small triangular patch on the top’s edge where a craftsman carefully and skillfully repaired an imperfection. The center table has an interesting history. It is typically round or octagon and slightly taller than a dining table and its original intended use was to Stand in the center of the entry hall to facilitate business transacted between the landowner and his tenants. As estates evolved so did the center table and when business transactions moved to a manager’s office the center table became a thing of beauty representing grandeur rather than business. Today we still use a center table in our foyers but with homes having smaller entries we have expanded their use to other areas of our homes. Maybe the living room, master bedroom, library, or office. Wherever you decide to use this magnificent piece you first need to make it yours. Disclaimer: Upon close examination it has been determined that this is a married piece of antique furniture. It is believed the top is from one antique and the legs from another. There were also some modern pieces used in this marriage. It will still make a gorgeous decorative piece for your home. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, children- the future of humanity. This is a magnificent vintage Chinese warrior or Guan Yu sculpture comprised of stunning rosewood with intricately hand carved details and a removeable guandao (Chinese pole weapon). In Chinese culture, General Guan Yu represents loyalty and valor. People believe that by having his image in art or sculpture in their home will protect their family from harm. And while we don’t believe he is going to break out with any actual martial arts moves; his fearless presence commands the room and demands attention! You may notice that in some of the photos our warrior friend is holding his guandao upside-down, don’t judge! Even the best of warriors tend to get exhausted from a long day of defending humanity and protecting mankind. A guy can get a little turned around! Just look at his expression… he is OVER it!! Chinese Chinoiserie Dining Table Rosewood & Mother of Pearl Round to Oval

Wonderful vintage Chinese Chinoiserie dining table comprised of Rosewood & Mother of Pearl (m-o-p) round top with 2 leaves, converting it to a small oval with one leaf and large oval with 2 leaves. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This Asian style table is in excellent vintage condition with the exception of a small missing piece of m-o-p on the top which we have repaired by filling with wood filler and painting with a pearlized paint. You can still see the spot when looking for it but doesn’t show overall. There was also a nick on the inside edge of one of the leaves that has been filled. The whole top and leaves have been scuffed and given a coat of poly for durability. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-Late 20th Century.
