Wimbledon-Furniture Wimbledon-Furniture is delighted to offer for sale this very rare Napoleon III – Louis XVI style gilt bronzed, ebonised and porcelain plaque mounted cobalt blue ground serves centre occasional table with central plate depicting Louis XVI Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only, for an accurate quote please send me your postcode A very highly decorative piece of art furniture, the metal work is all gilt bronzed and of a very high casting quality, the porcelain is hand painted, the main removable plate depicts king Louis XVI, with high ranking ladies of his court and renowned ladies such as Marie Antoinette and the Princesse de Lamballe in the smaller surrounding plaques, The table rests on a tripod black wood column. It's ornated with a rich chiselled and double patina gilt-bronzed finish that reinforces the prestigious character of this piece. The base ornated by scroll ribbons and foliage’s interlaced. A very fine acanthus console, on low and top parts and supporting the central part, decorated with mouldings, scroll ribbons flutes, joined by laurel and flowers and roses garlands. In terms of the condition there are some chips to the main plate around the edges, otherwise its in lovely order throughout. A unique monumental Louis XVI Style giltwood centre table with a Brèche Violette marble top by François Linke. French, circa 1914. Giltwood furniture by Linke is not only rare, but can be difficult to identify as it tends to be unmarked. This table can however be confidently attributed to Linke, as an early black and white photograph of the piece, Linke index no. 2575, survives in the Linke Archive (see page 428 pl. 501, in Christopher Payne: François Linke, 1855-1946, The Belle Époque of French Furniture). The only one of its kind known to have been produced, it was carved for Linke in May 1914 by the outworker Derivry.
