About the Item
The coffee table 'Origami' is made of extra-clear crystal glass. Each sheet of extra-clear crystal glass is cut and ground with extreme precision, then the sheets are assembled by hand, having to fit together perfectly, the gluing operation requires extreme precision and experience. The final result is spectacular, the sloping edges of the glass create wonderful reflections and crystalline transparencies.
The first 'Origami' coffee table was presented by Sotheby's for the auction on 4 November 2015.
Coffee table dimension: W 140 x D 70 x H 34 cm. Dimensions are customizable.
Limited Edition of 30.
Each table is hand signed by the artists (engraved), 100% handmade in Italy and comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity”.
The inspiration for origami came from the observation of a simple piece of paper which, being folded a few times according to an antique Japanese technique, transforms into complex and delicate figures of innate fascination and beauty: The origami.
The idea starts off with the concept of taking advantage of the resistance of glass appreciating its optical lightness with the intent to unveil the similarity between the complex art of origami and the workmanship of glass showing its magic transparency.
Both, paper with its light sense of touch and opacity and glass with its physical heaviness and transparency present contrary features but have also a strong attribute in common: The concept of lightness. The tables origami were created as a result of this theory.
The artworks by Barberini & Gunnell are regularly shown at international art fairs, such as PAD London, PAD Genève, PAD Monaco, Salon Art + Design New York, ArtMiami.

All of our artworks travel with a shock watch system in order to monitorate rough handling by shippers and movers.

Atelier Barberini & Gunnell was founded in 2009 by the architects Francesco Barberini and Nina A. Gunnell, as the result of a passion followed for a long period of time, creating one-off pieces and collectible design in limited editions; artworks far from the industrial reality. The cultural mix between the two artists with Italian, English and Austrian backgrounds results in unique architectural and interior design projects.
