Franco Albini Cicognino Coffee Table in Teak Wood by Poggi Pavia 1970s Italy

About the Item

Cicognino coffee table entirely made in teak wood designed by Franco Albini in 1952 and firstly produced by the Italian company, Poggi Pavia from the 1950s. The Cicognino coffee table was designed in 1952 by the Italian designer Franco Albini and produced by 1953 by the company Poggi Pavia. The name "Cicognino" comes from the iconic refined and essential design, which evokes the appearance of the stork. This table is exhibited in the collection of the Franco Albini Foundation, and also at the MOMA in New York, and at the Triennale Museum in Milan. The first research about the TN6 Cicognino table started around the end of the 40s, from this time Albini made a series of changes to arrive at the ending essential shape that we already know. Albini wants to create an ideal model of a coffee table, identifying the essential elements and possible uses inside the house. The result of a long search dictated by the need to arrive at the "substance of form" and the possibility of mass production, the Cicognino coffee table has become a timeless object made of technique and pure matter. The latest version shows how the initial idea has been concretized: the table top and "neck-spout/ handle" consist of two geometric elements suspended on a thin wooden structure with trestle given by the three legs.
