About the Item

Step into the realm of timeless sophistication with this original Karl Springer Rain Drum Cocktail Table; a dazzling tribute to Southeastern Asian craftsmanship infused with the avant-garde flair of the renowned designer Karl Springer. Crafted in the 1970s, this cocktail table is a testament to Springer's ability to blend traditional influences with contemporary aesthetics, drawing inspiration from other maximalist designers like Vladimir Kagan, Pierre Cardin, and Gabriella Crespi. Karl Springer, a visionary in the world of furniture design, established himself as a prominent figure during the mid-20th century. Renowned for his innovative creations, Springer seamlessly merged luxury with functionality, creating pieces that embodied both artistic expression and practical utility. Inspired by the intricate designs of rain drum tables originating in Southeast Asia, Springer's take on this classic form is a testament to his ability to infuse vintage, traditional forms with a modern twist. The Rain Drum Cocktail Table features a solid copper body, gracefully weathered and showcasing a captivating patina, paying homage to the ceremonial objects and percussion instruments. Springer's creative genius is evident in the original textured glass top, where a thoughtful design choice allows the textured patterns to be visible through the glass while maintaining a smooth and functional surface. Drawing inspiration from contemporaries such as Vladimir Kagan, known for his organic and sculptural designs, Pierre Cardin's futuristic aesthetics, and Gabriella Crespi's innovative use of materials, Karl Springer's cocktail table stands as a synthesis of diverse influences. This fusion of historical inspiration and the bold designs of his peers elevates this Rain Drum Cocktail Table into a work of art that transcends time and cultural boundaries. Whether placed in a sleek urban loft or a classic mid-century modern setting, this table invites admiration and sparks conversation. It embodies not only Karl Springer's ingenuity but also the collaborative spirit of an era that embraced design as an art form.

Karl Springer Goatskin Dining Table With Custom Chrome Drum Base
By Karl Springer
Located in Culver City, CA
This dining table is simply stunning. A goatskin dining table designed by Karl Springer from the 1980s features a creamy goatskin top with hides that are both tan and nude in color with slight color variations in the hides that only come with real goatskin pieces. This large goatskin top rests on a circular chrome drum base that is a custom base for the table. This stunning table came out of a prominent home in Century City and the provenance is available upon request. The dining table top still has the original Karl Springer paper label which was included in the original wrapping of the piece / order tag, which has been affixed to the bottom by the original owner for provenance. This wrapping tag has significantly faded with time, but you can still make out the name Karl Springer at the top (especially if you snap a photo and bump up the contrast). This dining table, as photographed, looks incredible with the Guido Faleschini for Pace Collection dining chairs -- which is the exact combination the family had been using since the 1980's. With the striking chrome base, this dining table would look great with Milo Baughman thinline...

Free Form Biomorphic Brass and Glass Coffee Table, 1970's
By Karl Springer
Located in Culver City, CA
This coffee table is absolutely gorgeous. Consisting of two circular bases, clad in brass with a free form / biomorphic black tinted glass top, this coffee table is jaw droppingly gorgeous. The free form glass top floats like a cloud on top of the two rounded bases, and the bases can be situated in a number of ways beneath the black tinted glass. This coffee table brings that 1970's glamour like none other. Very evocative of Karl Springer's free-form coffee tables, this large coffee table would look incredible in any Mid-Century Modern, modern, or glam environment. Juxtapose the Vladimir Kagan cloud sofa, this coffee table not only holds its own, it makes a bold, glamorous statement. We currently have this piece in the gallery paired with a Karl Springer goatskin credenza, a Vladimir Kagan sofa and Paul Evans lounge chairs...
