About the Item

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period low Kang coffee table from the 19th century, with carved apron, mythical figures, auspicious cloud motifs and dark brown lacquer. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period in the 19th century, this low table features a rectangular top with central board, sitting above a stunning apron carved on all sides. The table will therefore be able to float and be seen from all angles. This apron showcases a rhythm of scrolling clouds, an auspicious motif, and mythical figures adorning the corners. Coffee tables as we call them now evolved from the Kang tables that were developed in the Ming Dynasty. Those low tables were long and rectangular with short legs and placed on a kang which was a raised three-walled platform. The ensemble, showcasing a dark brown lacquer complimenting the lines beautifully, is raised on graceful chow legs. With its skillfully carved décor and dark lacquered finish, this Chinese Qing Dynasty period low Kang coffee table from the 19th century will bring an exotic presence to any living room.

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period coffee table from the 19th century, with carved apron and scrolling feet. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period, this low table, which could nowadays be used as a coffee table (the Chinese didn't used coffee tables in the 19th century), features a rectangular top with central board, sitting above a beautifully carved apron. This apron is adorned with a central calligraphic motif surrounded by scrolls, animals, foliage and geometric accents.
