About the Item

This exquisite late 18th-century Rococo console table exemplifies the ornate elegance of the period, with richly carved giltwood detailing and a distinctive wall-mounted design. Crafted in the French or Italian tradition, the piece features elaborate asymmetrical carvings of scrolling foliage, C- and S-shaped curves, and naturalistic motifs such as flowers and leaves—hallmarks of the Rococo style’s flowing, organic aesthetic. The giltwood surface is finished with gold leaf over a gesso base, revealing subtle undertones of red and black that accentuate the intricate relief work. A red marble top adds a bold and luxurious contrast to the frame, enhancing the table’s decorative presence. Designed to be mounted to the wall, as was typical of the era, this console was intended as both a functional and ornamental piece—ideal for showcasing fine objets d’art. With its dynamic form and refined craftsmanship, it remains a timeless statement of Rococo artistry.
