Antique French Hunt Wake Dining Table Oak Drop Leaf Gate Leg Console Sofa c1900.
Direct from France, and one of our customer’s most sought-after table designs, a large, drop leaf, gate leg “wake” or “hunt” table.
The design of these tables makes them so versatile, as they are VERY SLENDER, but VERY LONG in length, with oversized leaves that can be opened to create an extremely large table when needed (this table transforms into approx. 6 ft x 4.5 ft. tabletop size)!
Another design feature, the dual supporting gates for the leaves open towards the center, which allows for much more leg/chair room than a traditional drop leaf table.
Certainly, this table is well suited for a dining table, but there are so many other possibilities, such as a kitchen island/work area and as a sofa table behind a large sofa, with occasional use of the outer leaf for entertaining!
Extremely versatile, and always a conversation starter, as most don’t know why they were known as a “wake” table or “hunt” table!!!
Quality throughout, very heavy, and solid with turned legs and solid oak construction; well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1900.
Measurements: 30” ht. x 70.5” (ALMOST 6 ft. length) x 21.5” (SUPER SLENDER WITH LEAVES DOWN.
LARGE FULL SIZE with both leaves up, 70.5” x 54.5” (that’s 6 ft. x 4.5 ft.!).
Width with one leaf up, 38”. Leg clearance below beveled top, 29”.
