« I readily imagine objects like constructions, architectural objects with plateaus, pillars, openings, in short language more related to architecture, a field which fascinates me. It is a question of construction here and especially to leave the different assemblage, piles of materials and textures ‘on view.’ Furniture is open like an open block in urbanism where each plan opens onto another invitingly. The designer Eric Jourdan, born in 1961, graduated from theEcole nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs. In 1987 he began working in collaboration with the Neotu Gallery, producing several furniture collections until 1999. At the same time he produced the signage for the Fondation Cartier (with IRB) and redesigned Cartier’s press offices in New York, USA. A solo exhibition of his work was organised in 1991 at the Fondation Cartier. In 1993 Philippe Starck asked him to join the Thomson Multimedia team to work on household appliance plans. In 1995 he obtained a Carte Blanche from VIA for a research programme about bridging furniture. In 2000 and 2004 he showed his work in two solo exhibitions at the Gilles Peyroulet Gallery in Paris. Since 2002 his work has turned towards mass-produced furniture and objects notably for Ligne Roset, Cinna, Meublatex, Ecart international. His work is included in the Fond National d’art Contemporain (French National Fund for Contemporary Art) collection in Paris, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in Saint Etienne.
