French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Mahogany And Ormolu Dessert Console
About the Item
An elegant and most striking French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany and Ormolu dessert console. The demi lune shaped console is raised on four tapered Mahogany legs with wrap around Ormolu sabots and twisted rope bands leading up to wonderful Ormolu capitals with dentil designs. The legs are connected by a solid Mahogany display tier showcasing the wonderful wood grain all within a pierced Ormolu gallery following the shape of the console. Impressive Ormolu reserves adorned the top of each leg with a richly chased Globe, Book, Scale and foliate garlands all tied at the top with a fine ribbon and flanking the apron. The exceptional apron displays a central drawer accented by an Ormolu border with circular beaded Ormolu pulls and a central foliate keyhole escutcheon. At each side are curved drawers which swing outward and are decorated in the same manner as the front drawer. Above is the exceptional Mahogany top showcasing the rich wood grain and surrounded by a pierced Ormolu gallery.
