French 19th Century Napoleon III Period Mahogany, Ormolu and Marble Console
About the Item
An exceptional and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Napoleon III Period Mahogany, Ormolu and marble console. The freestanding console is raised by four topie shaped feet below richly decorated circular fluted tapered legs with the top of the legs showcasing impressive and richly chased ormolu mounts of draped laurel garlands while at the bottom of the legs the flutes have ormolu chandelles. The four legs are joined by an X shaped stretcher with an ormolu and patinated bronze urn of prosperity draped by a berried laurel garland (a sign of peace) flanked by a rosette at each side. The apron has a central ormolu and patinated bronze mount with gilt chandelles within the flutes all above a scrolled foliate element.
The central plaque is flanked by impressive Coeur de Rai ormolu designs and the sides are decorated in the same manner. Above is the original and sensational marble top with an inlay of marbles and semi-precious stones. The center has four branches tied together with a grey bow. Each branch has various fruits and flowers with a bird on each side. The branches are surrounded by a Brocatelle D'Espagne marble and having a Fleur de Lys like design at each corner. The console is finished by its back mahogany panel decorated by an ormolu beaded edge.
