Gio Ponti 'Model 2134' "Flip-Top" Console Table for Singer & Sons, 1950s

About the Item

A beautiful and uncommon "flip-top" console or dining table by Gio Ponti for Singer & Sons, 'Model 2134'. This table was produced in Italy by Giordano Chiesa, constructed in wispy figured walnut, with brass hinges and sabots. This example has been thoughtfully restored and is in superb condition. The wood has carefully refinished and is smooth and full of life. The brass feet have been lightly polished. The brass hinges have been replaced, and now open and close smoothly. This design may be used in either of 2 different ways: firstly, as a sculptural console table, or secondly, with its top unfolded (doubling its size) to make a dining table. Both ways are equally as impressive.
