Italian 19th century Baroque st. Giltwood Mirror and Console
About the Item
A palatially scaled and high quality Italian 19th century Baroque st. Giltwood and Gris St. Anne marble matching console and mirror. The stately oval shaped mirror with its original mirror plate has two elaborate scrolls at the bottom corners that are accented by foliate and floral carvings that flank a seashell central reserve topped by a pair of roses. Above each scrolled carving on the bottom corners are the heads of griffins with winged ears. The mid section of both sides have attractive scrolls with wonderfully carved roses on top. Leading upward are a pair of foliate decorated display panels that flank the top crown. The top crown contains an additional pair of roses below the crest shaped carving which introduces the acanthus leaf spray above. The intricately carved console is raised on a scallop shaped mottled base with fluted carvings and a Mecca seashell above while being supported on three slender egg and dart patterned feet. Atop the Mecca seashell is a joyous and removable cherub displaying scaled legs with one arm raised over his head. The frame behind the cherub showcases tastefully carved scrolling acanthus leaves that flank the pierced rosette figure in the center. The lovely original scallop shaped Gris St. Anne marble top adds an eye-catching aspect to an already amazing matching pair.
