Italian 19th Century Neo-Classical St. Faux Painted Marble Console & Mirror

About the Item

A striking Italian 19th century Neo-Classical st. patinated, giltwood and faux painted marble matching console and mirror. The freestanding console is raised by a wonderfully executed faux painted marble bottom tier with a concave front. At the front are impressive square tapered columns with fine foliate designs and palmettes at the base below fluted designs leading to richly carved caryatids wearing headbands. The backplate retains its original fitted mirror plate framed within a mottled giltwood border and flanked by elegant columns at each side also displaying foliate designs and palmettes at the base below fluted designs. The straight frieze displays beautiful and most decorative gilt wave like designs with foliate accents all below the exceptional hand painted faux marble top with a fine mottled border. The original matching architectural rectangular shaped mirror plate is surrounded by a Coeur de Rai gilt band with an out patinated flat panel. The mirror plate is flanked by two columns with plinth and foliate capitals. The columns have recessed panels which are decorated by foliate scrolls and large palmettes. The grand top crown above displays an intricately carved giltwood design with three stunning shell like gilt ornaments flanked by superb pieced finely detailed palmettes and scrolled foliate designs. All original gilt and patina throughout.
