Pair of French 19th Century Neoclassical Style Marble and Ormolu Consoles
About the Item
A beautiful true pair of French 19th century Neo-Classical st. white Carrara marble and ormolu consoles. Each freestanding console is raised by a fine square base with impressive finely detailed roaring lion heads at each corner. At each front are beautiful and intricately detailed ormolu plaques of cherubs reading and playing while the sides display fine swaging garlands. The central supports display striking wonderfully executed ormolu plaques set on a white Carrara marble background. One plaque depicts a beautiful richly chased maiden dressed in classical attire holding an oak branch while the other depicts a handsome bare chested man with his hand on his hip. To each side are fine foliate and berried ormolu mounts. Above the capital like designs decorated with a floral reserves and palmettes are the original demi-lune shaped white Carrara marble tops with elegant mottled borders. All original gilt throughout.
