About the Item

This very fine table made in England around 1830 to 1840 is produced in rare and costly rosewood. The top shows this wood to a degree as the choice veneers are book-matched making the top a play of light and dark. The uprights also carved from rosewood solids showing that cost was not considered when the table was made. All the carving is deep and crisp throughout the table. The dramatic surface is further decorated with finely carved details in water gilding at the base, center sections on the apron and at the tops of the uprights. The table is finished in the round symmetrical on both sides but contains blind drawers on one side. The gilded parts retain the original gilding while the wood has a new french polish but has not been recolored or changed.
