Antique Victorian Burl Walnut Inlaid Marquetry Carved Davenport Desk 1860
About the Item
A fine antique burl walnut & inlaid marquetry Davenport desk, circa 1860.
The davenport is made from the finest figured burl walnut, to the top is a lift up lid with a fitted interior for pens and other writing materials.
Below is a lift up slant-fronted writing surface inlaid with a tooled & gilded green leather insert, to the inside is a storage well with four interior drawers (two are dummy) with ebony handles, the interior is lined in blond maple. The knee area below the desk is finely inlaid with stylized floral satinwood inlay, this is flanked by a pair of carved & reticulated brackets with columns terminating to carved acanthus leaf supports. The right side of the Davenport having a set of four drawers, each with a pair of pulls, the left side having four corresponding dummy drawers. The desk is raised on four compressed bun feet each set with an original porcelain caster, the original key is present for the desk.
Condition is very good indeed, the davenport is of the very finest quality and is in great condition and ready to grace your home or office.
