About the Item
An 18th century Bombay form slant front desk that opens to reveal an inlaid central door with working key that reveals a compartment with a small drawer. Flanked by two "secret" compartments with inlaid lattice motif. The central door is also flanked by compartments and tiered inlaid drawers with checkered inlay trim along with shallow scalloped pull outs. The 24 1/2" deep writing surface with black worn remnants of leatherette is supported by the two small drawers below.
The front of the slant door presents with a "The British Antique Dealers Association" sticker to the upper right corner and an ornate escutcheon with urn, bell flowers and a ram. The lower portion of the cabinet with three long drawers and the whole resting on ball and claw feet below a fanciful carved trim.
Dimensions: 44 1/2" W, 23 3/4" D and 46 3/8" H
Condition: Please see detail photos. Various signs of age include losses to veneer to both cabinet and drawers (some loose fragments are included), stable age crack to left side upper cabinet, repair to left corner of door, stable age cracks along the top of door, losses to front trim between drawers, key only for the interior door, losses to the interior checkered trim, veneer lifting to the top of cabinet and between two small front drawers, two shallow scalloped interior drawers are loose and the lattice secret compartment is tight, veneer loss to apron. While restoration is recommended, the Desk retains a fine European presentation.
