About the Item

Franco Albini "T22" Desk for Poggi, wood, Italy, 1958 Designed in 1958, the “T22” desk is one of Franco Albini’s rarest and most sophisticated works for Poggi. Characterized by its sculptural base in solid wood and an organically contoured top, the desk reflects Albini’s pursuit of structural clarity combined with expressive freedom. The “T22” belongs to the celebrated series of Albini’s collaborations with Poggi, alongside icons such as the “Luisa” chair (1955) and the “Rocking Chaise” (1956). As with those designs, the desk reveals Albini’s architectural mindset: an equilibrium between modern rationalism and artisanal precision, where each joint and proportion carries both function and poetry. Through its tapered legs and central support, the piece recalls Albini’s architectural work of the late 1950s, in which essential structures become lightweight yet monumental. The “T22” stands as a manifesto of Italian design’s transition towards a more fluid and organic modernism, paving the way for later masters like Caccia Dominioni and Frattini.
