About the Item

A stunning and most impressive French 19th century Louis XV st. Napoleon III Period Ebony, Brass and Ormolu Boulle desk, attributed to Befort Jeune. This high quality rectangular desk is raised by beautiful cabriole legs with fine pierced Ormolu sabots and striking vertical Brass inlays on an Ebony background. The inlays lead up to sensational richly chased corner mounts of beautiful and finely detailed maidens with large scrolled acanthus leaf designs. The scallop shaped front apron contains a wonderful Ormolu seashell mount in the center which is flanked by lovely scrolling foliate Brass inlays. The side aprons are tastefully decorated by additional scrolling foliate Brass inlays which flank an Ormolu bust of a bearded man with a foliate designed crown. Wrapped around the rectangular top with protruding rounded corners is a uniquely patterned Ormolu band. The exceptionally inlaid symmetrical top is decorated with elaborate Boulle designs with scrolling Brass inlaid foliate patterns while being surrounded at each corner by rosettes.
