A rare Frenchman's Cove dining table, in maple wood with free-edge top, made by George Nakashima in 1980 Height 73.5cm, the top basically 152.5cm square but slightly wider in places where the free edge protrudes. In very good condition, with natural variations of the maple wood. The top is signed and dated to the underside George Nakashima / March 1980. George Nakashima (1905-1990) was born in Spokane, Washington in 1905 and grew up in the United States. In 1946, Nakashima established his own woodworking studio in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he crafted his iconic furniture pieces. His designs often incorporated natural edges, emphasizing the organic beauty of the wood. His renowned work is acclaimed for seamlessly blending traditional Japanese woodworking methods with modernist design concepts. Sold with a copy of the original order paperwork from 1980.
