About the Item

Title: Sangre y Tanqueray Year: 2010 An outstanding dining table or executive-style desk constructed entirely of 1/2" copper tubing, featuring geometrically constructed legs that support a chaotically-woven surface finished with a 1/2"-thick glass top. This labor-intensive, meticulously hand-built design represents hundreds of hours of work. Original scorch marks have been left on the metal to contrast with the sheen of the copper, then sealed with Permalac to arrest any oxidation and preserve the piece. Table / desk shown here measures 43" wide x 80.75" long x 30.5" high. Other sizes can be fabricated to client's specifications - - design and build time will vary depending on size desired, please inquire. ________________ ABOUT THE ARTIST: A self-taught artist, TJ Volonis’ creative work incorporates a wide variety of themes: human biological processes, the natural world and man's relationship to it, hidden systems, technology and contemporary culture, and the implicit balance between order and chaos, among others. He views his work as a collaboration between the material with its limitations and his own intentions and designs. TJ received a BA in Japanese Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After graduating, he moved to Brooklyn and has been a resident of the borough for the last 15 years, designing furniture and creating art for the last 11 of those years. He lives in Park Slope and works out of a metalworks studio in Gowanus. His work has appeared in: Architectural Digest, LUXE, The New York Observer, Wallpaper* Magazine, Elle Decor, Lonny Magazine, Freshome, Design Milk, Core 77, Artsicle, Gotham Gazette, and Examiner. He was also selected as one of NYC's top emerging artists in December of 2011 and 2013 and was the 2005 Best Emerging Artist in Mixed Media at the GLAAD OUTAuction.

One-Off American Studio Surreal Console Table in Maple by Andrew J Willner, 1976
By Andrew Willner
Located in Brooklyn, NY
A one-off, fantastical table by American craftsman, Andrew J Willner, executed in rare, spalted wormy maple, its five individual sections sculpted by hand and constructed with pegged mortise and tenon joinery. A dramatic pair of legs that are an amalgam of human and avian forms supports a top surface riddled with worm holes and whose outline serves as reference to a bird's beak and plumage. Made as a gift for Willner's parents, the underside bears a carved inscription: "'Mortgage Table' Thanks mom and dad, Love Andy & Diana, AJW April 76". A quintessential example of 1970s fantasy studio furniture. Well-preserved, in all original condition. Literature: Meilach, D. Z. (1975). Creating modern furniture (pp. 288–289). New York: Crown Publishers. *width of base = 86 inches *depth of base = 17 inches Andrew Willner...
