StavOak Dining Game Table & 4 Chairs Jack Daniels’ Barrel Staves Jobie G Redmond

About the Item

Handsome original StavOak dining table or game table and glass top with four (4) chairs designed by Jobie G. Redmond and made from Jack Daniels’ barrel staves. This set is in wonderful condition. The wood has been completely restored by our experienced staff. But, although we have professionally cleaned the upholstered seats, they do have some flaws and you most likely will want to recover. Plus, we just discovered a small chip in the edge of the glass top. Please see photos. Circa 1981. NOTE: We have several pieces listed here from this line in case you are interested in others. Wow! We were completely smitten with this table and chair set the minute we saw it. It has a wonderful combination of modern design and rustic with touches of Adirondack. It was designed in 1978 by Jobie G. Redmond of High Point, North Carolina, whose family background was in furniture making, and made using Jack Daniels’ used barrel staves. Redmond was hired to do so by Jack Daniels Distillery. These first pieces were presented at High Point North Carolina furniture market in the Spring of 1979 and ready for the retail market in 1981. They were marketed as StavOak. The table base bears the barrel shaped brass tag. The chairs are not marked but research show them to be the same maker. Later, similar pieces were made by Davis Furniture Company and called Jack Daniels No. 7. The table base is comprised of an octagon picture frame style top that is connected to a larger octagon picture frame style base by nine barrel staves which run from top to bottom, three staves each on four sides of the table. It is topped by an octagon piece of glass. Simple yet striking and sturdy. The back of the chairs somehow reminds me of a garden trellis. It is attached to a beautiful barrel stave frame including arms, and an upholstered seat. All the wood has a dark applied stain to the gorgeous oak and a hand rubbed look to the finish. This table and chair set would be perfect in your modern country or mountain home and equally as nice in your industrial loft. Or in your bar area, rec room, or man cave no matter your style. You need to make it yours! MCM Grand Haven Chair by Jack Van der Molen for Jamestown Lounge in Blue Fabric
By Jamestown Lounge Company, Jack Van der Molen
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous Mid-Century Modern Grand Haven dining or accent chair designed by Jack Van Der Molen for Jamestown Lounge Company. Beautiful vintage condition. We had the foam replaced in the original cushion, but it still wears its original blue hopsack fabric. We have deep cleaned the fabric but there are still hints of staining. Hard to find but it is there. I would not be afraid to use it however. The original webbing has been replaced and the wood has been restored to its original glory. However, you may still find small imperfections as it is a vintage piece. Please see photos, circa 1950s-1960s Roses are red, violets are blue, and so is this awesome Grand Haven chair we have to offer you!!! We have a vintage ad that denotes these as “the famous Grand Haven chair, winner of the coveted House Beautiful Classic Award given for exceptional value in design, construction and comfort.” That couldn’t be more accurate! Besides the obvious beauty, this chair is super comfortable and ready to grace your mid-century modern home with its bold presence. It wears its original blue “hopsack” fabric, and we had the foam replaced in the original cushion, so it is closer to its original condition. This would be a wonderful accent chair to have in your entry way for sitting as you remove your shoes or a king chair at your dining table. Wherever you choose to put it, this chair is sure to be your new conversation piece. Jack Van der Molen is an award-winning gifted American designer of the mid-20th century. He was born in 1922 and is a man of many accomplishment and talents. He was awarded five Battle Stars for his actions during WWII, is a fabulous golfer winning many tournaments, and an excellent watercolorist with work in private and commercial collections. He was educated at Kendall School Design in Grand Rapids. His furniture design work successfully combines organic details with clean lines. He designed several lines of furniture for Jamestown Lounge Co. including “Americana Casual”. He even won the coveted House Beautiful Magazine “Best Chair of the Year” award for his “Grand Haven” chair for Jamestown in 1959. In addition, he collaborated with Dupont initiating use of polyester fiber in upholstered furniture. His 61 years designing for top manufacturers is celebrated by how desirable and sought after his designs are today. Jamestown Lounge Company of Jamestown, New York was founded in 1888 by four partners. They first manufactured, obviously from their name, only lounges. These were long armless, backless, upholstered pieces with a hard roll at one end…what my mother always called a “fainting couch”. They soon added other box couches and convertible sofa beds leading into full manufacturing of all kinds of case and upholstered goods. They are famous for their Feudal Oak...
