About the Item
An exceptionally charming early 18th-century English lowboy, crafted in Gloucestershire during the Queen Anne period, circa 1750. Made of rich, warmly patinated walnut, this piece features a gently bowed top above a shaped apron with a central arch flanked by elegant cyma curves, hallmarks of the Queen Anne style.
The lowboy is fitted with three drawers, two smaller flanking a wider center, all retaining their original brass batwing handles. The finely turned, slender cabriole legs terminate in distinctive pad feet, lending the piece a graceful stance and lightness of form. A subtle molded edge runs along the top, complementing the refined silhouette.
Notable for its honest wear and deep color, this lowboy boasts an aged surface rich with character, including knots, marks, and shrinkage cracks that speak to its centuries of use and history. The drawer linings reveal early hand-cut joinery, further affirming its period authenticity.
A beautiful and practical example of early Georgian craftsmanship, ideal as a side table, writing table, or hall piece. Timeless and versatile.
