George II Period Kingwood Veneered Lowboy
About the Item
An unusual lowboy raised on four cabriole legs ending in hoof feet. The shaped top is veneered in a mesmerizing pattern of kingwood strips. Kingwood was often utilized in strips, because it was difficult to obtain larger widths. The handles, which may be original, have engraved backplates. The form embodies influences from both the Dutch and English traditions and could be either English or Dutch in origin.
