About the Item

This large turned and carved wooden pedestal stand was made in Southern France in the late 19th century. The column has a solid oak top, 17.7 inches in diameter, with a reversed bull nose mold. Below is a fluted and ribbed column with an octagonal centerpiece. The stand ends with three forged steel scrolled legs. The pedestal has an off-white/bone color base with faux marble and gold-painted decorations. The gold-painted parts have a green undercoat. The piece shows beautiful age appropriate wear throughout and has built up a great patina over many years. It was gently cleaned in our atelier and a new protective wax coat was applied. The pedestal or piedestal is now clean, solid, and ready for use.
