French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Mahogany and Ormolu Side Table/Writing Desk
About the Item
A most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany and ormolu side table / writing desk. The table is raised by Fine circular tapered fluted legs with ormolu sabots, top caps and richly chased fitted foliate chandelles. Above each leg are beautiful finely detailed pierced floral and foliate ormolu mounts flanking the straight frieze. The frieze displays one central drawer decorated with a mottled and beaded ormolu band and centered by a foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheon. The sides and back are decorated in the same manner. At each side are charming pull outs with an ormolu hoop pull and each retaining their original gold tooled leather writing surfaces. The top also retains its original gold tooled leather writing surface framed within a superb pierced ormolu gallery.
