Light Oak Refectory Trestle Dining Side Tables Pair Cotswold School Arts Crafts

About the Item

A super pair of extremely interesting and very rare light oak Arts & Crafts refectory trestle tables in lovely vintage/antique condition. Strikingly attractive, beautifully crafted and extremely versatile, these tables make lovely smaller dining tables, larger side tables or great-looking desks, bedroom or occasional tables and will add gorgeous light colouring, terrific craftsmanship and a wonderful, traditional-yet-decorative look to any interior. This is listing is for the pair – please see our other listings for the individually listed tables. A near-matching pair, we wonder if the blonder of the two is an original Cotswold School piece, likely made around 1910-30 and possibly sold by high-end retailer Heals, with the redder of the two perhaps being made in its likeness later. This would account for the slight variations in carvings and wood, with the blonder piece being crafted from golden or light oak, while the redder one is in red oak. Reassuringly heavy, these marvellously decorative tables feature outstanding tapering trestle legs, which are joined by impressive pegged-tenon jointed stretchers and supported by substantial broad feet – all beautifully crafted and with lovely, chamfered edges. They tables have decent-sized plank tops with gorgeous mitre-jointed decoratively carved bordering, which really sets them apart and suggests their Cotswold School heritage, as the design school was renowned for including eye-catching, decorative flourishes to traditionally carved pieces of outstanding quality, particularly in light oak. All in all this is a wonderfully charming and rare pair of oak trestle tables, which won’t fail to impress and will add gorgeous colouring and a wonderfully rustic-yet-decorative Cotswold School Arts & Crafts aesthetic to any setting. Together they make a knockout pair and we’d love to keep them together, but they are also listed individually – please our other listings for details. CONDITION This super pair is in very good vintage/antique condition. Structurally sound, sturdy and reassuringly heavy, as you’d expect from traditionally crafted English oak pieces, they have only minor to-be-expected marks and blemishes to denote their not-inconsiderable age, mainly to their tops, which are hardly noticeable out of direct sunlight and which, if anything, only adds to their semi-rustic vintage/antique appeal. Overall they’re a stunning and exceedingly charming pair of versatile trestle tables in lovely vintage/antique condition and if well looked after they should be just as breathtaking and usable for generations to come – please see the photos. MEASUREMENTS Height – 76.5cm, Width – 107cm, Depth – 61cm, Tabletop Depth – 3.5cm, Weight per table – 20kg.
