Chinese Hardwood Altar Table, Late Qing Dynasty, circa 1900

About the Item

Chinese hardwood , altar table, late Qing dynasty, circa 1900. Faded evenly to a warm honey color and having a good medium scale. Would be great as a sofa table, console or server. The apron is bordered with a shaped high relief trim. Bats and auspicious characters, carved in precise deep relief, decorate all four sides. Shaped legs and ornamental portals float in-between the side stretchers of the legs. An excellent design creating a lightness of the whole mass. Unrestored and original. Shrinkage to the top, corners, apron, sides but complete. Loose from shrinkage but heavy joints are secure. A little sway but put in place it supports itself well.
